Experience
PBG Lifestyle Magazine
Since moving back to Jupiter, I have joined the team of Palm Beach Gardens Lifestyle Magazine, where I have been given the position of associate editor and contributing writer. The new magazine's editor in chief has made a substantial effort to involve me in a number of the production aspects to increase my knowledge of this form of print.
The Independent Florida Alligator
In the summer of 2008 I worked at the University of Florida's student-run newspaper, better known as the Alligator. Over the course of the summer, I assisted with their online department, assisting in the upkeep of their content management system as well as capturing and editing videos for their Web site. I also worked as a writer for their local section, contributing material for the print newspaper and strictly online stories.
Applied Interactive Newspapers
In the spring of 2008 I elected to take the capstone course for online journalism at UF, JOU4946, which attempts to reproduce many of elements found in a modern online newsroom. In this class, the students acted as editors of their own online newspaper, UF's Newszine, in Weimer Hall's Interactive Media Lab.
This course is classified as an internship for journalism because the students are expected to perform all of the duties expected of online media producers today. This includes reproducing wire content, producing videos, creating SoundSlides presentations and editing stories. We also participated in a rebuild of the Newszine utilizing CSS and JavaScript elements.
Parametric Solutions, Inc.
In the summer of 2004 I interned at a mechanical engineering firm in Jupiter, Fl., where I performed a number of duties for the engineers. These tasks included IT work and PowerPoint presentations, as well as the maintenance and updating of their database system.
